Neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from roof and windows of an abandoned house on Chestnut Street. Engine 9 arrived to find moderate smoke coming from a two-story small residential structure. A fire attack line was pulled and entry was made to find heavier smoke conditions. A hole in the first-floor was found through which the fire could be seen in the basement. Crews advanced lines into the basement as well as the second-floor where the fire had also extended. A rapid search was completed with no one found in the structure. It appeared that the house was being renovated. The cold temperatures were also challenging for the crews, some of which had been involved with fighting two other fires that day and night.
No injuries and the cause is under investigation.
