Allen County Democrats call on Keesling to resign as Fort Wayne City Clerk
Fort Wayne, Indiana (October 31, 2025) – At a press conference today, Allen County Democratic Party Chairman Chad Wierzbinski called on Fort Wayne City Clerk Lana Keesling to resign due to conflicts of interest with her position as Indiana Republican Party Chairwoman. Wierzbinski’s remarks from the press conference were as follows:
“In light of Governor Braun’s announcement that he is calling a special session to further gerrymander Indiana’s congressional districts, I felt it was important to call this press conference today to shed light on how Fort Wayne’s own city clerk, Lana Keesling, is playing a role in disenfranchising voters.
Keesling’s second job, as many of you know, is Chairwoman of the Indiana Republican Party. As party chair, she has gleefully supported President Trump’s demands, giving her ‘absolute support’ to the mid-cycle gerrymandering movement. It is crucial to note that only 34% of Hoosiers support mid-cycle redistricting, and in 2021, statehouse Republicans touted these very same maps that they are seeking to replace as fair, compact, and logical. This gerrymandering movement will eliminate the voices of millions of Hoosiers, all in the name of partisan political power.
When Keesling became Republican Chairwoman in February, it was expected that she would follow the precedent established by previous Indiana Republican Party chairs who also served as elected officials, by resigning her elected position and releasing taxpayers from the burden of subsidizing a high-level political official.
Keesling’s role as party chair has taken her all over Indiana, recently announcing that she has visited all 92 counties since February. For a party chair, this is certainly a noteworthy feat in such a short amount of time. But it is not a task befitting of a local city clerk. The citizens of Fort Wayne deserve a full-time city clerk whose attention is singularly focused on the city, not someone spending her time at political events across the state while maintaining taxpayer-funded employment.
Keesling has made it clear that her main priority these days is kowtowing to the President and far-right political movements and the well-being of the constituents who elected her and pay her salary now come second. With these details in mind, the Allen County Democratic Party calls on Lana Keesling to resign her position as Fort Wayne City Clerk.”
