The Allen County Election Board would like to replace precinct assigned polling locations in favor of Vote Centers and will hold two public meetings.
E-mail from Amy Scrogham, Director of Elections for the Allen County Election Board:
On Election Day, the current process for every registered Allen County voter allows them to cast a ballot at their assigned precinct-based polling location. The Allen County Election Board would like to replace precinct assigned polling locations in favor of Vote Centers. Moving from precinct assigned polling locations to countywide Vote Centers will not only save the county money, it will also increase flexibility by allowing voters to cast a ballot at one of the 39 different locations throughout the county.
The Election Board staff convened a multi-partisan volunteer Study Committee to help in the planning process. The Committee consisted of 8 local citizens, Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican, who gained their expertise by working all aspects of election administration in Allen County.
The Study Committee went through current polling locations to ascertain the most logical Vote Center locations; taking in account the current number of registered voters and total number of ballots cast by precincts in past elections, major employers in Allen County, traffic flow, size of polling locations, accessibility of facilities, room layout, parking lots and proximity of other polling locations.
The Election Board will conduct a meeting on Friday, August 15 and Monday, September 15 at 9:00am at Citizens Square, 200 E Berry St, Room 030 Garden level. At this time, the proposal of moving to Vote Centers for Allen County will be discussed and we invite the public to attend.
