News release from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:
Commissioners to Consider Commercial Solar Ordinance at Next Legislative Session
Allen County, Indiana (July 25, 2025) – The Allen County Board of Commissioners announced today at its Friday morning Legislative Session that it intends to place the proposed Commercial Solar Energy System Overlay District zoning ordinance amendment on the agenda for its next scheduled Legislative Session of August 8, 2025.
Unlike Plan Commission, the Board of Commissioners does not hold a public hearing when it considers amendments to the zoning ordinance. They anticipate having a staff member from the Department of Planning Services give a presentation explaining the proposed ordinance and then having a public dialogue between the Commissioners prior to a vote. The Board of Commissioners has three options it may consider on August 8th. First, it may approve the zoning ordinance amendment as recommended by the Plan Commission. Second, it may reject the amendment recommended by the Plan Commission. Finally, it may make changes to the proposal and send it back to Plan Commission for further consideration.
As this third option is something that could happen, the Board of Commissioners this morning encouraged continued public feedback on the technical components of the proposed Commercial Solar Energy System Overlay District. That feedback can be provided by writing a letter to the Board of Commissioners at 200 East Berry St., Suite 410, Fort Wayne, IN, or by emailing them at boardofcommissioners@allencounty.us.
