Fort Wayne Philharmonic Announces Farewell Era for Music Director Andrew Constantine, Celebrating 18 Years of Artistic Excellence
Fort Wayne, Indiana (July 11, 2025) — The Fort Wayne Philharmonic announces that Andrew Constantine, beloved Music Director since 2009, has entered the final two years of his current contract with the orchestra. Signed in 2024 as a three-year extension, this agreement represents a defining moment for both Constantine and the Philharmonic: a triumphant celebration of nearly 20 years of extraordinary artistic leadership, and the exciting promise of the seasons still to come.
Constantine’s grand finale is not just a conclusion, it is a culmination. A capstone to a legacy that has transformed the Philharmonic into a nationally recognized ensemble, this period will be marked by bold programming, artistic excellence, and meaningful tributes to a tenure that has shaped the cultural fabric of Northeast Indiana.
Since his appointment following an international search in 2009, Constantine has elevated the Philharmonic’s artistic profile through visionary programming and passionate community engagement. Milestone initiatives such as the “Made in America” season, “Composer: REVEALED” series, and the powerful Violins of Hope collaboration have fostered deep community connections and affirmed music’s role as a force for unity and transformation.
Constantine’s impact extends far beyond the concert stage. Under his leadership, the Philharmonic launched its first commercial recording in 2018 and established the International Conductors’ Workshop in 2015, drawing talent and attention from around the world. His insightful podcast, “A Stick with a Point,” continues to highlight the inner workings of the classical music industry, shining a light on composers, producers, directors, and thought leaders.
“Andrew Constantine has given so much to this orchestra and to our city,” said Brittany Hall, President and CEO of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. “His vision, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence have lifted us to new heights. As we prepare to honor his extraordinary legacy over the next two seasons, we are filled with gratitude—and great anticipation—for the moments still to come.”
“For nearly two decades I have been proud to serve as Music Director of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic,” said Constantine. “It’s been a fascinating and productive journey during which I have been thrilled to share the stage with so many wonderful musicians and friends and, witness how the orchestra has embraced and inspired my musical ideas and philosophy. I’m deeply honored to continue this journey and to celebrate everything we’ve built—side by side with the musicians, staff and board, who make this orchestra so meaningful to the community.”
This celebratory chapter arrives at a time of great momentum for the Philharmonic, as it prepares to move into its newly acquired permanent home in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne. Constantine’s leadership has helped position the Philharmonic as an anchor of the region’s vibrant arts scene, and as the city continues to thrive, so too does its orchestra.
As the Fort Wayne Philharmonic looks to the future, it does so with reverence for Maestro Constantine’s legacy and with a profound commitment to honoring the enduring mark he has left on generations of music lovers throughout Northeast Indiana and beyond.
