Electric Works Celebrates Be Elec-trific Day with New Announcements
Fort Wayne, Indiana (Feb. 11, 2025) – In honor of National Be Elec-trific Day, Electric Works invited the Fort Wayne community to celebrate with an event featuring new business announcements and an update on The Elex residential development. The event took place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, kicking off with a news conference at 11 a.m.
This free event highlighted new developments at Electric Works and provided a chance to engage with local businesses on campus. The celebration focused on entrepreneurship, community health, and arts and culture.
Organizers announced new businesses opening at Union Street Market, including Savor Burgers and The Berry, a real fruit ice cream shop. Additionally, new bars like the Neon Pear and The Crane recently opened, further expanding the beverage offerings at Electric Works.
“Electric Works and Union Street Market are inclusive spaces designed to drive entrepreneurship, promote better health outcomes, and celebrate the rich cultural fabric of our city. This event provided a forum to share new announcements and showcase the diverse businesses thriving on campus,” said Scott Fergusson, managing director of Union Street Market.
Kevan Biggs, president and CEO of Biggs Group, provided an update on The Elex, a new residential development at Electric Works set to welcome its first residents this summer. Designed for affordability, inclusivity and accessibility, the first phase of The Elex aims to offer a welcoming, urban living experience. - Vendor Showcase & 2025 Preview – Attendees met the dynamic tenants of Electric Works and Union Street Market, exploring their offerings through interactive booths.
- Entrepreneurship Spotlight – Guests discovered how Union Street Market is supporting local food and beverage entrepreneurs and helping businesses grow and expand.
- Health & Wellbeing Focus – Visitors learned about initiatives that are advancing community health by increasing access to fresh, nutritious food, promoting healthy eating, and creating opportunities for active living.
“Be Elec-trific Day was a unique opportunity to connect with the businesses that make Electric Works and Union Street Market such a dynamic part of our community,” noted Fergusson. “In 2025, we’re continuing to focus on our role in supporting local entrepreneurs, improving health and wellness, and celebrating the cultural diversity that makes Fort Wayne so special.”
Beyond business growth, Electric Works continues to foster innovation and hands-on learning. Riley Johnson, director of Amp Lab, emphasized the impact of educational programs on campus, stating, “Innovation and hands-on learning are at the heart of what we do at Amp Lab, and Electric Works provides an incredible environment for students and entrepreneurs to push boundaries. Programs like MIE’s Bionanomics initiative showcase the cutting-edge research and real-world applications being developed right here on campus, preparing the next generation to lead in emerging industries.”
