The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of a residential structure fire in the 300 block of West Williams Street at 2000 hours on January 2, 2025.
Flames were reported as visible from two sides of the residence. Fire units arrived and entered the structure and quickly extinguished a working kitchen fire. Other crews arrived and searched the structure for occupants and pets. All occupants self-evacuated and 3 cats were found but one had perished. The fire was under control in a few minutes, but crews remained on scene for a while checking on hot spots.
Investigators found the cause to be an accidental cooking fire.
Assisting at the scene was Neighborhood Code Enforcement, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, the Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana Michigan Power, and NIPSCO.
