On December 2, 2024, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to a possible armed robbery at the Meijers Grocery Store on 6309 Lima Road.
On December 2, 2024, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched a possible armed robbery at 6309 Lima Rd, Meijers Grocery Store.
Information provided was that the Loss Prevention Officers working at Meijers had attempted to stop a male who was pushing out a cart of unpaid merchandise. The male, later identified as Jacob Slocum, exited the store and when an off duty Indiana State Police officer attempted to get Slocum to stop, Slocum produced a handgun, chambered a round and pointed it back towards the store and officers before fleeing from the scene.
This brazen act was captured on video and Slocum fled the Fort Wayne area. Officers working in collaboration with the Indiana State Police Department, North Manchester Police Department, and the Fort Wayne Police Department were able to locate Slocum at a trailer in North Manchester along with the suspect vehicle.
The Indiana State Police were able to obtain a search warrant for Slocum’s arrest and with the assistance of the Indiana State Police SWAT team and North Manchester Police Department were able to serve the warrant resulting in Slocum’s arrest, during which shots were fired.
Slocum is facing multiple charges along with an active warrant for his arrest. Fort Wayne Police Department Street Crimes Unit will be following up charging to include the following:
- Carrying a Handgun by Serious Violent Felon-Level 4 Felony
- Pointing and aiming a Firearm-Level 6 Felony
- Resisting Law Enforcement while Drawing a Deadly Weapon-Level 6 Felony
- Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon-Level 6 Felony
- Intimidation-Level 6 Felony
- Criminal Conversion-Misdemeanor
