News release from Fort Wayne City Utilities:
Lake Avenue Closes for Culvert Replacement
Fort Wayne, Indiana (November 8, 2024) – Lake Avenue, between Reed Road and Old Maysville Road will close beginning Monday, November 11, 2024, as crews begin work to replace the culvert and nearby road under Lake. The closure is set for six weeks, through the end of the year, and is part of the Pierson Drain Phase II stormwater improvement project.
Motorists should use a detour of Reed, East State Boulevard and Maplecrest Road during the closure.
Prone to flooding for many years, the road is sometimes impassable during heavy rain events. The new culvert will expand the culvert’s capacity, allowing stormwater to travel through the Peirson Drain to the Maumee River. An expanded two-stage ditch is being constructed south of Lake along with a new culvert under the Maumee Pathway (trail) at the river.
This project is Phase II of a multi-phase stormwater improvement project along the Pierson Drain that when completed will protect six neighborhoods along the drain.
