Details/Summary:
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Wells Street to reports of a burglary in progress around 01:51 hours on Friday September 6, 2024. Officers arrived and made entry into the home. Once inside the home, the officer encountered an adult male. Shots were fired with the adult male being struck; the officer was unharmed. Officers started emergency medical care and requested medics. Once medics arrived the individual was treated, but later pronounced deceased at the scene.
The officers involved in this incident will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard department protocol. The following agencies will be involved in this investigation: FWPD Homicide Unit, FWPD Office of Professional Standards, Indiana State Police, Allen County Prosecutors Officer, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
