Details/Summary:
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a suicidal subject in the area of 1100 Liberty St. today around 12:36pm. The FWPD received information from a third party who was speaking with the suicidal adult male over the phone. Initial information was that the suicidal subject was armed, alone, and contemplating suicide-by-cop. Officers arrived and secured the area. Communication with the subject was intermitted by phone and officers also loud hailed to try to get the subject to come outside voluntarily, unarmed. After repeated unsuccessful attempts to get the suicidal subject to come outside voluntarily, a tactical unit page was made. The Emergency Service Team (SWAT), Crisis Response Team (Negotiators) and the Air Support Unit (Drones) made the scene.
Communication continued to be intermittent and the subject came outside briefly, was armed, then went back inside. More unsuccessful attempts were made to get the subject help and for him to come outside unarmed. At some point, during the course of the communication by phone, the subject shot himself, crawled to the door, then to the outside step and was rendered aid by EST members. TRAA was on standby, and quickly took over life-saving measures. The adult male was transported by TRAA to a local hospital in life-threatening condition.
