FWPD: Update on bones discovered at residential property

The Fort Wayne Police Department has updated the discovery of bones at a residential property on August 19, 2024, in the 1400 block of Summit Street.

News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:

After an extensive investigation conducted by the Fort Wayne Police Department into the bones located in a vacant residence in the 1400 block of Summit Street, it was determined the bones were not that of human remains. The FWPD was assisted in this determination by the Allen County Coroners Office, Crime Scene Management personnel, trained police cadaver dogs, and an anthropologist. The investigation has been closed at this time.

On August 19th, 2024, at 1012 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a vacant residence in the1400 block of Summit Street. The residence was under construction and while the contractors were shoring up the foundation, they located what was believed to be human remains. The Allen County Coroner’s Office arrived on
scene to inspect the bones. The incident is currently under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroners Office and the Allen County
Prosecutors Office.
