‘Caps Win Series, But Fall in Finale on Road
South Bend, Indiana (August 11, 2024) – The TinCaps won four of six games in their road series against the Cubs, however, it was South Bend that won the finale of the set, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at Four Winds Field.
Fort Wayne (16-26, 44-64) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, but South Bend (15-27, 42-66) rallied to tie the game in the seventh and took the lead for good in the eighth.
Second baseman Rosman Verdugo (No. 17 Padres prospect), 19, drove in both runs for the ‘Caps with a double.
Catcher Ethan Salas (No. 1 Padres prospect) also doubled, as did right fielder Kai Murphy and shortstop Wyatt Hoffman. The TinCaps finished 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, though, leaving nine on base.
Starting pitcher Jagger Haynes (No. 12 Padres prospect), working on only four days rest for the first time this season, tossed four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. Tyler Morgan pitched two scoreless innings of relief across the fifth and sixth.
