FWPD: Barricaded subject, 500 block of Ward Drive

The FWPD responded to a call for service regarding a domestic battery on July 30, 2024, at 11:58 hours in the 500 block of Ward Drive.

Details/Summary:

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a party armed, domestic battery call for service July 30th, 2024 at approximately 11:58 am in the area of 500 Ward Dr. The caller advised that her ex-boyfriend Aaron Vendrely “threatened suicide by cop” and has a bow and aarow and is attempting to shoot the caller through a bedroom door. The caller stated he has already shot two arrows through the door and that he will shoot anyone who comes to the home.

Officers arrived on scene and were able to get the victim out of the residence unharmed. Officers began loud hailing for the suspect, Aaron Vendrely to come outside peacefully and unarmed. Aaron came outside with multiple knives and a large machete. Officers were attempting to negotiate a peaceful surrender. Aaron went back inside the residence and came outside with two dogs. Officers directed Aaron to put the dogs back inside, discard the knives and surrender peacefully. Aaron put the dogs inside then walked to the end of his driveway were he discarded several articles and knives. Verbal commands were given and Aaron stopped complying. A Non-lethal munition was used to gain compliance and Aaron was placed into custody.
