Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:
Fort Wayne, Indiana (July 28, 2024) – On Saturday, for a second night in a row, a crowd of more than 7,000 fans sold out Parkview Field. But also for a second consecutive night, the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Guardians affiliate) spoiled Fort Wayne’s party, beating the TinCaps, 10-4.
‘Caps left fielder Joshua Mears hit a three-run home run to the Home Run Porch presented by the Rohrman Automotive Group in the seventh inning.
However, before that, the Captains took control with six two-out runs in the top of the first inning, and four more runs in the third after there were two outs and no one on.
Fort Wayne rallied for another run in the ninth as designated hitter Griffin Doersching socked a sacrifice fly, but it was too little, too late.
Saturday’s crowd of 7,004, which was then treated to the Three Rivers Festival finale fireworks, marked the 12th sellout of the season at Parkview Field. The TinCaps entered the night ranking second in attendance this year out of 60 teams at the Single-A and High-A levels, while outdrawing 23 of 30 Double-A clubs, and 11 of 30 Triple-A franchises.
