TinCaps Shut Out Dragons
Dayton, Ohio (July 26, 2024) – The TinCaps shut out the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate), 3-0, on Friday night at Day Air Ballpark. With catcher Anthony Vilar behind the plate, pitchers Braden Nett (No. 16 Padres prospect), Fernando Sanchez, and Manuel Castro teamed up for Fort Wayne’s sixth shutout victory of the season.
The ‘Caps (10-18, 38-56) out-hit the Dragons (17-11, 51-43), 7-2. Dayton registered a double in the first inning and an infield single in the sixth. While the home team did draw four walks and had two batters hit by pitches, TinCaps pitchers struck out 10, as Sanchez led the way with six over his three innings of relief.
Nett started and went the first five frames. Castro closed it with a perfect ninth.
Offensively, Vilar gave Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead in the second with an RBI double. First baseman Romeo Sanabria added one of his own in the third. Then in the seventh left fielder Nick Vogt provided a run-scoring single. Meanwhile, right fielder Kai Murphy had a game-high two hits.
