Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:
Same Story as ‘Caps Lose 1-Run Game
Dayton, Ohio (July 25, 2024) – Out of Minor League Baseball’s 120 teams, only three have suffered more one-run losses than the TinCaps this season. Fort Wayne added to its misery on Thursday night at Day Air Ballpark with a 4-3 setback against the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate).
The score was tied in the bottom of the eighth inning when a pair of ‘Caps errors led to an unearned run scoring.
That proved to be the difference as the TinCaps went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.
Fort Wayne (9-18, 37-56) scored all of its runs in the third after there were two outs and no one on base. Second baseman Nik McClaughry started a chain of four consecutive singles, followed by center fielder Homer Bush Jr. (No. 8 Padres prospect), left fielder Nick Vogt, and first baseman Romeo Sanabria.
Dayton (17-10, 51-42) though had taken a 2-0 lead in the first with a pair of two-out runs. The Dragons then tied the game in the home third with an unearned run.
‘Caps starter Jagger Haynes (No. 18 Padres prospect) struck out nine across five innings with only two earned runs allowed.
Bush, Vogt, and right fielder Joshua Mears all had two hits.
Only Double-A Reading (Phillies), Triple-A Indianapolis, and Single-A Myrtle Beach have dropped more one-run games than the TinCaps this year. Fort Wayne is 12-19 in one-run games, having now lost by a run back-to-back nights here.
