‘Caps Drop One-Run Game on Road
Dayton, Ohio (July 24, 2024) – The TinCaps played their Midwest League-leading 30th one-run game of the season on Wednesday night at Day Air Ballpark in a 5-4 loss to the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate).
Fort Wayne (9-17, 37-55) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but couldn’t hold on. The opening frame featured an RBI single by first baseman Romeo Sanabria, who finished with a game-high three hits. Third baseman Devin Ortiz added a two-run single that inning.
However, Dayton (16-10, 50-42), which leads the East Division’s second-half standings, got a run back in the first, another in the third, and sprung ahead with three in the fourth to lead 5-3.
Catcher Ethan Salas (No. 1 Padres prospect) laced a run-scoring single in the sixth to trim the TinCaps’ deficit to a run, but they couldn’t get level.
Despite the result, reliever Bradgley Rodriguez (No. 28 Padres prospect) impressed with two scoreless innings of relief in which he recorded five strikeouts across the seventh and eighth innings. The 20-year-old’s fastball reached 100 miles per hour, while he paired it with a slider and a changeup. Keegan Collett also tossed a scoreless inning of relief after Enmanuel Pinales went the first five.
The ‘Caps are 12-18 in one-run games this year.
