Bush & Vogt Homer, But Dragons Win

Dayton, Ohio (July 23, 2024) – Center fielder Homer Bush Jr. had three hits, including a home run on the first pitch of the game, but the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate) beat the TinCaps, 12-7, on Tuesday night at Day Air Ballpark.

Bush’s leadoff blast, combined with an RBI single by catcher Ethan Salas (No. 1 Padres prospect), gave the ‘Caps (37-54) a quick 2-0 lead through a half inning.

However, the Dragons (49-42) equalized in the bottom of the first and put up four runs in the second to take a 6-2 lead.

Though Fort Wayne left fielder Nick Vogt hit a solo homer in the third to make it 6-3, Dayton added four more in the sixth on a grand slam by designated hitter Hector Rodriguez (No. 12 Reds prospect). Rodriguez also hit a two-run homer in the first.

The TinCaps showed life with a four-run frame of their own in the eighth to cut the deficit to 10-7. First baseman Romeo Sanabria hit an RBI double, his second double of the game, Salas drove in another run, and shortstop Jay Beshears plated a pair with a double.

Yet, the Dragons hit their fourth homer of the game in their half of the eighth to extend their lead to 12-7.

For Bush (No. 8 Padres prospect) it was his third home run of the season and the first on the road. Vogt’s was his first at the High-A level since being promoted on June 28.
