Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:
Dragons Come Out Swinging Against the TinCaps
By Jack GordonFort Wayne, Indiana (June 25, 2024) – The TinCaps scored four runs in the final four innings of the game, but the Dayton Dragons’ (Reds affiliate) early offense was too much to overcome in an 8-4 loss at Parkview Field on Tuesday night.
Fort Wayne (2-2, 30-40) didn’t score until the sixth inning. To get the offense going, center fielder Homer Bush Jr. (No. 8 Padres prospect) walked, stole his league-leading 34th base, and eventually came around to score on an RBI from catcher Ethan Salas (No. 1 Padres prospect).
In the next inning, the ‘Caps got hot in the batter’s box with three consecutive hits. Shortstop Jay Beshears (No. 27 Padres prospect) hit his 12th double of the season – the most of anyone in the Midwest league since his first game on May 15. Third baseman Devin Ortiz singled, and right fielder Kai Murphy hit an RBI double to score Fort Wayne’s second run. Murphy now leads the team with 28 RBIs. The next batter, designated hitter Griffin Doersching, knocked in Ortiz with an RBI.
When the ninth inning came around, Dayton (1-3, 35-35) led 8-3. The TinCaps started a small rally that was quickly quelled, but Doersching hit an RBI double to make it 8-4 before the Dragons closed it out.
In relief, Joan Gonzalez worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings and José Geraldo threw 1 1/3 scoreless with three strikeouts.
