TinCaps Survive For Win Against Rattlers
By Brayden CarrollFort Wayne, Indiana (June 23, 2024) – The TinCaps hit the midpoint of their 12-game homestand at Parkview Field on Sunday afternoon with a 6-5 win against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers affiliate).
Five days after his 22nd birthday, right-handed starting pitcher Braden Nett (No. 16 Padres prospect), celebrated with a strong four-strikeout appearance in two innings as he continues to work his way back from the injured list. The bullpen went the rest of the way with only one earned run allowed.
The TinCaps (2-1, 30-39) drew first blood in the second inning with an RBI single by left fielder Tyler Robertson. The scoring continued as second baseman Nerwilian Cedeño hit an RBI double. Center fielder Homer Bush Jr. (No. 8 Padres prospect) added an RBI fielder’s choice grounder and then first baseman Romeo Sanabria tacked on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
The Rattlers (1-2, 43-26) promptly responded in the third with three unearned runs.
In the fifth, catcher Anthony Vilar provided a two-out RBI single to up Fort Wayne’s lead to 5-3. Vilar finished the day with a game-high three hits and an RBI in four at-bats.
Wisconsin made it a one-run game again in the sixth with another two-out tally.
Fort Wayne then responded in the seventh as Sanabria scored Bush Jr. with an RBI single. Bush Jr. finished the game with a hit, a run, and two stolen bases—extending his season mark to 33, tied for most in the Midwest League.
In the ninth and down 6-4, the Timber Rattlers scratched across another unearned run. But with the tying run at third, Manuel Castro closed out his team-leading fifth save of the season with a strikeout.
The ‘Caps are now 9-3 in Sunday games this season.
