FWPD: Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation, 4700 block of Holton Avenue

On June 13th, 2024, at 16:43 hours, the FWPD were dispatched to the 4700 block of Holton Avenue regarding a burglary in process.

Details/Summary:

On Thursday June 13th, 2024, at approximately 443 PM Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the 4700 block of Holton Ave regarding a Burglary in Process. The caller stated 1 or 2 people were in her home. While the officers were in route the Caller stated they left her home and were now in the detached garage, one armed with a knife, the other with a firearm.

When the officers arrived, they found a window on the detached garage was broken. Officers then aired that shots were fired, and that one officer was struck. The officer was struck in the arm and was transported to the hospital in NON-life-threatening condition. The second officer was not injured.

Both suspects fled on foot during the incident, and a firearm was recovered from the scene. A detailed search of the area was conducted with the assistance of Allen County Police Department, New Haven Police Department and Indiana State Police where one adult suspect was eventually located hiding in the 1300 block of Fairfax Ave and taken into custody. He was found to have an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

This incident remains under investigation with the Fort Wayne Police Department. As policy with officer involved shootings, a parallel investigation will be conducted by the Indiana State Police Dept and reviewed by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
