On January 12, 2024, at 1842 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment building in the 2300 block of Abbey Drive in the Canterbury Green Apartment complex.
Time of Alarm: 1842 hours
On Scene: 1848 hours
Under Control: 2000 hours
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from multiple areas of the building, including the attic space. Crews immediately began to evacuate all occupants in each of the 32 apartments in the building and simultaneously began to search for and extinguish the fire.
The fire had advanced through interior wall cavities from the first and second floors into the attic. Extra firefighters were called to assist in controlling the fire due to the size of the building and crews brought the blaze under control in 75 minutes. A considerable amount of the structure and contents were saved.
Firefighters will remain on scene to make sure that all embers are extinguished and protect the property of the occupants.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, City of Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code Enforcement, the Allen County Building Department, and Indiana Michigan Power.
No injuries were reported by either occupants or firefighters. No pets were reported to be injured or lost.
