Fort Wayne Wins Fourth Straight With Extra-Inning Flare

Dayton, Ohio (April 21, 2024) – The TinCaps won their fourth consecutive game on Sunday afternoon, 5-3 in 10 innings, over the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate) at Day Air Ballpark. The ‘Caps have overcome multi-run deficits in three straight games.
In the 10th inning, with the score tied, 3-3, Devin Ortiz stepped up to the plate with Homer Bush Jr. on second. For the second game in a row, the TinCaps third baseman knocked in the game-winning run. Yesterday, it was a two-run homer in the ninth. On Sunday, Ortiz cranked an RBI double to dead center field take a 4-3 lead.
To add some insurance, left fielder Tyler Robertson doubled down the left-field line and brought Ortiz in to score Fort Wayne’s fifth run.
Similar to yesterday afternoon’s affair, Dayton (6-9) led through the third inning. Fort Wayne (8-6) battled back to tie it up thanks to a pair of RBI doubles from catcher Colton Bender in the fourth and sixth, respectively.
Bender headlined the ‘Caps offensive output today. The second-year TinCap went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a season-high three RBIs.
Fort Wayne also continued to be aggressive on the basepaths with four stolen bases. The TinCaps came into the game fourth in the Midwest League with 18 steals in 13 contests.
On the mound, Fort Wayne’s bullpen continued to show its prowess. The group only allowed one run and struck out 10 through 8 1/3 innings.
All but one TinCaps game so far has been decided by three runs or less, with three going to extra innings.
