FWFD: House Fire, 500 block Clayton Avenue

On November 25, 2023, at 1320 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 500 block of Clayton Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Time of Alarm: 1320 hours
On Scene: 1321 hours
Under Control: 1335 hours

Firefighters arrived on the scene and found smoke coming from the basement windows and utility chimney. Crews forced entry into a side entrance of the home finding heavy smoke throughout the basement and rest of the home. Heavy fire was found around the furnace and ceiling area of the basement. The main fire was extinguished. However, while crews performed overhaul operations, they located more fire inside the walls and ceiling of the first floor. Crews worked to open up these areas and finally bring the fire under control.

Investigators on scene stated it looked like the fire started with the heating and air equipment in the basement.

No one was home when the fire started.

Fire Damage: Moderate
Water Damage: Moderate
Smoke Damage: Heavy
