South Bend, Indiana (June 24, 2023) – The TinCaps took a lead three batters into the game, but ultimately the South Bend Cubs prevailed, 4-1, at Four Winds Field on a hot Saturday night.

Center fielder Jakob Marsee (No. 22 Padres prospect) hit a one-out single in the top of the first inning and stole second base. Third baseman Marcos Castañon promptly singled him in with a knock to left-center field. But after that, Fort Wayne (1-1, 33-35) failed to score again.

Meanwhile, South Bend (1-1, 31-36) scored twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, and once again in the sixth.

The ‘Caps threatened in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but Joe Nahas saved the game.

Marsee and Castañon each finished with two hits. However, all six TinCaps hits in the game were singles. Conversely, the Cubs tallied five doubles and a home run, hit by shortstop Kevin Made (No. 15 Cubs prospect).

It was 87 degrees at first pitch, at 7:05 p.m. The contest took only 2 hours and 2 minutes.
