On May 11, 2023, at 1828 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 6100 block of Park State Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Time of Alarm: 1828 hours
On Scene: 1829 hours
Under Control: 1914 hours

Engine 4 arrived on scene and found thick smoke coming from the rear of the house. Occupants were out of the house having been initially warned by a smoke detector. An attack was made on the fire, but it had already extended into the attic and travelled the entire length of attic.

Crews were hampered by floored attic space as well as power lines being down and exploding welding tanks in the garage. Crews had to be pulled out of the structure do to rapidly deteriorating conditions.

A defensive stance protecting exposures was taken. The use of water streams and ultimately the use of an elevated master water stream brought the fire under control.

A search later, after conditions were safe, found a deceased dog.

The residence sustained major damage, but no injuries occurred.

The cause is under investigation.
