On February 7, 2023, at 0052 hours, FWPD’s Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team (Negotiator), and Air Support Units were requested to assist patrol officers investigating a suicidal adult male armed with a shotgun in the 1700 block of Andrew Street.

Details/Summary:
On Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 at 0052 hours, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team (Negotiator), and Air Support Units were requested to assist patrol officers investigating a suicidal adult male armed with a shotgun. Currently officers believe that a juvenile is inside the house with the male. Officers are asking citizens to AVOID this area while negotiators and tactical officers attempt to safely remove the child and male. This release will be updated as more information is known.
UPDATE: The adult victim exited the house and is safe. The male was transported to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation. The juvenile was also found to be safe inside the home. The involved weapon was confiscated by officers and a Warrantless Seizure Affidavit was submitted to the Allen County Superior Court. This investigation is no longer active.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
