FWFD: Apartment Fire, 1800 block Hobson Road

On January 7, 2023, at 2128 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched on the report of a fire in a multi-unit apartment building in the 1800 block of Hobson Road.

Time of Alarm: 2128 hours
On Scene: 2131 hours
Under Control: 2253 hours

Occupants called 9-1-1 to report that the attic was on fire. T0hese occupants alerted other tenants to evacuate the building prior to the department’s arrival. The first firefighters on the scene found heavy flames and smoke coming from the roof of a multi-unit building. Firefighters immediately made sure that each apartment had been evacuated and began aggressive firefighting activities. Multiple hose lines were established, and extra crews were called to the scene to assist in controlling the fire.

The fire was brought under control in 90 minutes.

No injuries were reported, and no pets were lost during the incident.

The American Red Cross was called to assist with occupants who had been displaced. There were 8 units that were affected by the fire. It is unknown at this time how many occupants were affected by this fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
