On September 16, 2022, at 0913 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 2100 block of West Point Drive on the report of an adult male threatening to shoot himself and others.

Details/Summary:
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a call regarding an adult male making threats to shoot himself and others. A cell phone ping was initiated to locate the subject at 2100 West Point Dr. Numerous attempts were made by patrol officers to get the subject to come out voluntarily, but he refused.
The refusal necessitated a page out for the Emergency Service Team, Crisis Response Team, and the Air Support Unit. A secure perimeter was set and the apartments were evacuated or residents sheltered in place. An Indiana Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS) alert was sent to citizens in the immediate area to avoid that area.
The Crisis Response Team made contact with the subject via phone and maintained contact throughout the incident. After a lengthy negotiation the subject came out on his own. The subject was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. There were no injuries reported in this incident.
The IPAWS warning has been lifted and the area released to normal traffic. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
