Traffic Alert: Sewer work to protect Maumee River Begins Tuesday
Section of East Wayne Street Closed for ConstructionFort Wayne, Indiana (September 5, 2022) – A section of East Wayne Street between Glasgow Avenue and South Anthony Boulevard will close on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 7:30 a.m. while crews construct the first portion of stormwater and sanitary sewer upgrades to protect the Maumee River. The closure will be about 90 days.
The project is part of the Consent Decree and Long-Term Control Plan to reduce significantly the amount of combined sewage flowing into our rivers. On average, nearly 31 million gallons of combined sewage diverts to the Maumee River yearly at an outfall near Anthony and Wayne.
When complete, the improvements will carry the flow to the Water Pollution Control Plant for treatment. A later phase of the project will involve work on Anthony near Wayne.
