Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:
Field Goal Not Enough for TinCaps
Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 3, 2022) – On a college football Saturday, the TinCaps lost to the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate), 10-3, at Parkview Field in front of 7,094 fans.
Jackson Wolf made a 41-yard field goal for Fort Wayne, but a West Michigan touchdown proved to be the difference. Just kidding…
The Whitecaps (36-23, 67-58) stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and rolled from there as they moved to within two games of the Lake County Captains for the Midwest League East Division’s second-half lead, and a trip to the playoffs.
West Michigan added four more — all with two outs — in the third, and another pair in the fourth to go up 10-0.
Tigers second baseman Jonathan Schoop highlighted the Whitecaps lineup in an MLB rehab assignment. The 2017 American League All-Star went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. He’s expected to play for West Michigan again on Sunday night, working his way back from a sprained right ankle.
Meanwhile, No. 1 Detroit prospect Jackson Jobe didn’t allow an earned run over 5 2/3 innings.
The TinCaps (21-37, 48-76) scored three unearned runs in the sixth inning. Shortstop Jarryd Dale deposited an RBI single in the frame.
