Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:
Force Not With TinCaps on Star Wars Night
By Ben ShulmanFort Wayne, Indiana (August 19, 2022) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps were defeated, 4-2, by the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) on Friday Night at Parkview Field. It was Fort Wayne’s Star Wars Night. The TinCaps wore Baby Yoda-themed jerseys in front of a crowd of 7,590 – the ninth sellout of the season.
The Dark Side, Dayton (15-29, 54-56), triumphed by limiting Fort Wayne (18-28, 45-67) to only four hits in the game. The TinCaps trailed early due to the Dragons’ first hit, a Noelvi Marte home run sent to a galaxy 410-feet away to make it 1-0 Dayton after two.
The Dragons added on three more in the sixth — all with two outs — led by a Garrett Wolforth two-run double. In the bottom half, Fort Wayne recorded its first hit of the game, a double from Jarryd Dale. It was 4-0 Dayton after six.
The TinCaps’ runs both came in the ninth. Anthony Vilar led off the inning with a double off the left-field wall, his third hit in the last two games. Carlos Luis then singled him in, and it was 4-1. Luis has reached base in all 12 of his games as a TinCap. After advancing to third, Luis was knocked in by Lucas Dunn. Dunn finished with a hit, a hit-by-pitch, an RBI, and made multiple strong defensive plays. His groundball made the score 4-2, but the Dragons closed the door from there.
The TinCaps’ Baby Yoda jerseys are available for auction at TinCapsJersey.com with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
