Winning Streak Ends at Peoria

Peoria, Illinois (July 27, 2022) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps’ three-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night in a 4-1 loss to the Peoria Chiefs (St. Louis Cardinals affiliate) at Dozer Park.

No. 7 San Diego Padres prospect Robert Gasser started for the ‘Caps and struck out six batters to take over the Midwest League lead in Ks for the season (115 in 90.1 innings). However, the 23-year-old left-hander also yielded four runs over four innings, tossing 80 pitches (55 strikes) on an 85-degree night.

The TinCaps (12-14, 39-53) scored their only run in the top of the sixth inning as second baseman Jarryd Dale hit a sacrifice fly that scored designated hitter Brandon Valenzuela, who had walked. Valenzuela also had one of his team’s five hits. Shortstop Max Ferguson had the only extra-base hit, a triple. He also walked and stole a base.

But Fort Wayne finished the game 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 on base. Peoria (11-15, 39-53) went 4-for-14 in those situations, scoring two in the second and then one run each in the third and fourth innings.
