Gasser Pitches a Gem Against Lake County
By Ben Shulman

Fort Wayne, Indiana (June 8, 2022) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps were downed, 5-2, by the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Guardians affiliate) on Wednesday night, despite an incredible pitching performance by Robert Gasser. The left-handed starter vied for the best start of the TinCaps season with 11 strikeouts, no walks, just four hits, and one run in seven innings.

Gasser came out firing strikes, mounting 0-2 counts on the first three batters he saw. The southpaw struck out the last two batters in the first inning on sliders, both looking. Gasser would fan another two batters to start the second to reach four in a row. The Houston alum recorded a strikeout in every inning he pitched while reaching some team milestones. Gasser’s strikeout of Gabriel Rodriguez on a chest-high fastball in the seventh tied the most by a TinCap in a single appearance this season, 11. Jackson Wolf struck out 11 as well versus Quad Cities on May 29. When Gasser induced a fly ball to end the seventh, he secured the team’s longest start in 2022, too. Offensively, first basemen Jack Stronach led the way for the ‘Caps. In the second, Stronach belted a double two feet inside the left field line with one out in the second. Two innings later, the UCLA alum ripped a line drive through the right side of the infield for his second hit of the night, and eighth in the last six games. The biggest play off the bat of Stronach wasn’t a hit. The first basemen popped up a ball to to shallow right field after singles from Matthew Acosta and Brandon Valenzuela. The looper glanced off the glove of Captains infielder Aaron Bracho and landed in right field, scoring both runners.

Fort Wayne (20-33) couldn’t hold on, though, as Lake County (28-24) capitalized after Gasser’s hook with a four-run eighth.

The start of the game was delayed by 53 minutes due to rain.
