Game recap from the Fort Wayne TinCaps:

Fans Pack Parkview Field on Saturday Night

Fort Wayne, Indiana (May 28, 2022) – A sell-out crowd of 6,396 fans came out to support the Fort Wayne TinCaps on a beautiful Saturday night at Parkview Field, but the home team lost both games of their doubleheader against the Quad Cities River Bandits (Kansas City Royals affiliate). The visitors claimed the first contest, 11-3, and the nightcap, 6-2.

It was 73 degrees and sunny at the start of the action. This, after rain postponed Friday’s game, causing the doubleheader.

Powered by four home runs, the Bandits (18-26) score the first 11 runs of the opener. In the seven-inning game, the ‘Caps scored a single run in each of their final three trips to the plate.

Second baseman Ripken Reyes had an RBI double, designated hitter Justin Lopez an RBI single, and center fielder Robert Hassell III a run-scoring double. Hassell went 2-for-4 with both hits the opposite way to left field.

The TinCaps (16-28) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the back-end. Right fielder Agustín Ruiz drove the run in on a fielder’s choice groundout. However, in the top of the third, Hector Gomez hit a three-run homer and Quad Cities never looked back.

Fort Wayne third baseman Olivier Basabe went 4-for-4, including an RBI single in the third. But that wasn’t enough as the River Bandits added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and another one in the sixth. Hassell was 1-for-4 in the finale.

Beyond baseball, fans were treated to postgame fireworks presented by PNC Bank and performances throughout the night by Tyler’s Amazing Balancing Act. More importantly, it was also Mental Health Awareness Night. The TinCaps wore special jerseys for the cause that are still being auctioned off on TinCapsJersey.com with proceeds benefitting Fort Wayne’s chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
