FWFD: Duplex Fire, 7600 block Meriwood Drive

On April 2, 2022, at 0721 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 7600 block of Meriwood Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Time of Alarm: 0721 hours
On Scene: 0723 hours
Under Control: 0740 hours

At least seven neighbors and motorists reported flames from the house to 9-1-1. Two minutes after being dispatched, the first FWFD Engine arrived. Firefighters were advised that possibly up to two children could be inside. Crews quickly began putting water on the fire and at the same time searched both floors of both halves of the duplex.

Two adults were in the duplex. The occupant of the side on fire self-evacuated, the occupant in the half not on fire was awakened and evacuated by FWFD due to smoke in his portion. A thorough search and further questioning of occupants confirmed no children were in either home.

The fire was declared under control at 0740 hours, seventeen minutes after arrival.

The fire was determined by investigators to be accidental in nature due to electrical.

Water Damage: Minor
Smoke Damage: Moderate
