Long duration winter storm
Fort Wayne, Indiana (February 1, 2022) – A long-duration winter storm will impact the area from tonight through Thursday night. This winter storm will come in two rounds, with the first round from tonight through Wednesday evening, followed by a 2nd round late Wednesday night into Thursday. Storm total snow accumulations in excess of 1 foot are a good possibility across many locations. North to northeast wind gusts to around 25 mph will result in widespread blowing and drifting snow on Thursday. Travel will become very difficult in some locations. Hazardous travel conditions may persist into Friday as the north winds begin to diminish. In addition, some sleet and freezing rain is possible for a brief time mainly along and south of US Route 24, but the main impacts from this storm will be due to the dangerous combination of snow and gusty north winds. Stay tuned for later updates as this winter storm continues to evolve.
