FWPD: Single Vehicle Life-Threatening Crash, I-69 and US 30

On January 7, 2022, at 1031 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to I-69 and US-30 in reference to a vehicle accident with injuries.

Details/Summary:

On Friday, 01/07/2022, at approximately 10:31 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to I-69 and US-30 reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Witnesses reported a minivan struck the median wall. Officers arrived and located a Dodge minivan in a ditch off the roadway. Paramedics transported the driver/sole occupant of the minivan to a local hospital in serious condition. Upon arriving at the hospital the victim’s condition was downgraded to life-threatening by a physician.

Preliminary information indicates the minivan was traveling northbound I-69 and exited at the 309A ramp to merge onto US-30. The driver failed to stop when reaching US-30 and struck the median wall that separates eastbound and westbound US-30. The driver was ejected from the vehicle when it struck the median wall. Investigators confirmed speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
