FWPD Update: Officer-Involved Shooting, Lemonwood Court

The Fort Wayne Police Officer involved in the Police Action Shooting that occurred on January 7, 2022, in the 800 block of Lemonwood Court was Officer Allissa C. Barnhorst.

Fort Wayne Police Department news release:

The Fort Wayne Police Officer involved in the Police Action Shooting that occurred on 1/7/22 at approximately 7:40pm on the 800 block of Lemonwood Ct. regarding a disturbance involving suicide threats was Officer Allissa C. Barnhorst.

Officer Barnhorst was confronted by Thomas A. May who was armed with a gun and who pointed the gun at Officer Barnhorst and other occupants in the home. Officer Barnhorst gave repeated commands to drop the gun as she retreated from her assailant. Thomas May continued to advance towards Officer Barnhorst after she continued to give loud verbal commands to drop the gun. Officer Barnhorst fired one round as she continued to retreat from the residence, striking the Suspect. The Suspect, Thomas May was treated at a local hospital and released two days later and taken into custody. As is Department protocol, Officer Barnhorst was placed on standard administrative leave to help cope with the traumatic incident as the investigation proceeds.
