Mayor’s Commission on Domestic Violence, Sexual Harassment & Rape to host Silent Witness display
Event to promote peace, healing, and responsibility to eliminate domestic violenceFort Wayne, Indiana (September 28, 2021) – The Mayor’s Commission on Domestic Violence, Sexual Harassment & Rape is hosting a Silent Witness display from 7:30 a.m.-noon on Friday, Oct. 1 outside the Courthouse Green in downtown Fort Wayne.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. At the event, there will be silhouettes in the shapes of men, women, and children. Each silhouette will have a necklace displaying domestic violence statistics to promote awareness about domestic violence. In addition, there will be a resource table with information from organizations such as the City of Fort Wayne’s Victim Assistance office, Center for Nonviolence, Amani Family Services, Sexual Assault Treatment Center, Charis House, Department of Children Services, and the VA Hospital. Members of the Mayor’s Commission will be in attendance to answer questions from attendees.
The mission is to promote peace, healing, and responsibility in adult relationships in order to eliminate domestic violence. The vision is that through the creation of successful community-based domestic violence reduction efforts, Silent Witness can provide hope, help, and healing for the victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.
In 1990, the Silent Witness Initiative began through promotion and education to support an end to domestic violence. It started with one exhibit in one state and has grown into an international presence.
