It’s time to get your annual flu shot — getting one is more important than ever!

Measures that help protect us against COVID-19 — such as social distancing, wearing face masks, and washing hands often — may also decrease the spread of flu. Yet it’s more important than ever to get vaccinated. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused shortages of hospital beds, ICU beds, and ventilators even outside of flu season. During flu season, when both the flu and COVID-19 will be circulating, our local health systems may face shortages, limiting their ability to care for people who are seriously ill with the flu, COVID-19, or both.

COVID-19 and flu have similar symptoms like fever, chills, fatigue, body aches, and coughs. This can lead people who get the flu to be tested for COVID-19, and then quarantine until they get the test result. We have recently seen strains on our COVID-19 testing sites due to the surge in the Delta variant and the pending flu season could further the strain on our systems.

For this reason, we are encouraging everyone in Fort Wayne and Allen County to roll up their sleeves and get their annual flu shot.
