Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 15, 2021) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a reported apartment building fire in the area of Lake Avenue and Hobson Road on September 15, 2021, at 7:00 pm.
First crews on the scene found a two-story apartment building with heavy fire coming from two separate first and second-floor apartments and spreading to the neighboring apartments. The fire was upgraded to a 705 alarm which brought an extra fire engine and six other FWFD apparatus responding. Crews pulled multiple hose lines and entered both apartments to fight the fire from the interior and exterior. Other crews made entry inside neighboring apartments, stopping any advancement to the rest of the building.
All occupants had either self-evacuated or were not home at the time of the fire. A total of 17 occupants were displaced due to the damage. No injuries were reported.
Investigators are still working the scene to determine the cause.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana Michigan Power, NIPSCO, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, City of Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code Enforcement, and the Allen County Building Department.
