FWPD: Shooting Investigation, 5300 block Lake Avenue

On September 4, 2021, at 1615 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 5300 block of Lake Avenue in reference to a shooting.

Location: 5300 block of Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana

Victim: Adult Male / Critical Condition

Details/Summary:

On Saturday, 9/04/2021, at approximately 4:15 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 5300 block of Lake Ave reference a shooting. Initial reports indicated a male had been shot. Officers arrived on scene and located a male/adult victim suffering from an apparent single gunshot wound. Paramedics transported the victims to a local hospital in fair condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, the victim was downgraded to life-threatening condition by a physician.

Preliminary information indicates this was possibly an accidental shooting that occurred inside a vehicle. Detectives are interviewing witnesses that were in and around the vehicle when the shooting occurred. They hope to obtain additional facts once those interviews are completed.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. There are no additional details at this time.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
