SCORE! 2021 Youth Performance Set for July 26 at Embassy Theatre
Fort Wayne, Indiana (July 20, 2021) – The Embassy Theatre will present a stage performance of its SCORE! educational program on Sunday, July 25, at 2 p.m. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 21 at the STAR Bank box office at the Embassy, ticketmaster.com and fwembassytheatre.org. Tickets are $8 and $6 (18 and under and 65+), plus applicable fees.
This year’s program is a collaboration with the Fort Wayne Youtheatre, which has helped both organizations strengthen their strategic goals to grow education programming as well as build upon the partnership that was already in place.
“It has been wonderful to work with the youth of SCORE! this year. A program like this is a challenge because we are helping youth discover their own creative voices and create work based on that. It is challenging work, but it is so rewarding to help youth embrace their creative potential,” says Todd Espeland, Fort Wayne Youtheatre executive/artistic director.
In its ninth year, this three-week (July 6 – 25), devised musical theater workshop has immersed middle school students in all elements of theater culminating in the public performance on the Embassy stage this Sunday. Participants have engaged in play-writing, composition, movement, drama, music, visual arts, and technical arts with the facilitation of industry professionals. The 2021 workshop attracted 22 diverse participants in grades 6, 7 and 8.
“The SCORE! program at the Embassy Theatre is unique in our region. It is the only nationally recognized devised theater program of its kind in Indiana. These young artists devise, play, write, sing, dance and create their very own musical theater production in telling THEIR story,” says Maggie Hunter, Embassy education manager. “I believe that our children are our future. I see it daily for three weeks. I am always amazed at the incredible stories our young artists create. SCORE! is truly something to be a part of and to actually see the finished creation on the historic Embassy stage.”
This year’s performance is named “I Can’t Hear You,” a title created by the program’s youth participants and is based on their theme of using your voice in the world.
