TinCaps Clipped by Whitecaps

Comstock Park, Michigan (July 16, 2021) – The Fort Wayne TinCaps were bested by the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate) on Friday night, 4-1, at LMCU Ballpark.

Fort Wayne’s run came in the top of the fourth inning, when already trailing, 2-0. Right fielder Agustin Ruiz led off the frame with a single. He advanced to second base on a groundout by first baseman Seamus Curran. With two outs, third baseman Ethan Skender singled to center field to drive in the run.

But West Michigan, which had scored a run each in the second and third, added a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to increase its lead. No one scored after that.

TinCaps (28-36) shortstop Chris Givin reached base three times with a single and two walks.

For their part, Fort Wayne’s pitchers were solid. Left-hander Danny Denz, in his second start since being activated from the Injured List, went 2 2/3 innings, finishing after 53 pitches (30 strikes). He struck out two. Righty relievers Felix Minjarez and Austin Smith covered the next 4 1/3 frames, while lefty Ramon Perez pitched a 1-2-3 eighth.

The Whitecaps (30-33) have won three in a row.
