On May 23, 2021, at 0718 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of West Dewald Street.

- Domestic Battery in presence of a child less than 16 years of age – Level 6 Felony
- Domestic Battery, prior conviction to same victim – Level 5 Felony
Details/Summary:
On May 23, 2021, at 7:18am, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 400 block of W. Dewald St. Officers arrived and made contact with an adult female victim who advised an adult male was still inside the apartment and was possibly armed with a gun, had possibly fired a shot inside the apartment, and had battered her. The adult male also was found to have an active arrest warrant.
Officers began making contact with the suspect who was still inside the residence, refusing to come out. Despite attempts at loud hailing the suspect to come out, the suspect refused to surrender.
Because of the dangerous nature of the incident, the Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and Air Support Unit were requested to assist. CRT Negotiators made phone contact with the suspect, who eventually peacefully surrendered at 10:05am and was taken into custody without incident.
The female victim was evaluated at a local hospital and released.
The male is being transported to the police station where he will be questioned before being transported to the Allen County Jail on his warrant and any charges stemming from this incident.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
