FWPD: Shooting Investigation, 5000 block Werling Drive

On September 3, 2020, at 0101 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 5000 block of Werling Drive in reference to a shooting.

Date: October 3, 2020

Time: 0101 hours

Location: 5000 block of Werling Drive, Fort Wayne, Indiana

Victim: Male / Adult

On Saturday, 09/03/2020, at approximately 1:01 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 5000 block of Werling Drive reference a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located the male/adult victim inside a residence. The victim was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was conscious and able to speak to the officers. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital in serious condition. Upon arriving at the hospital his condition was downgraded to life-threatening by a physician.

Evidence indicates the victim was in the front yard of the residence when the shooting occurred. Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses in an effort to obtain additional details.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
