City of Fort Wayne news release:
River Level Lowering to Aid River Protection Project
(August 12, 2020) – Work to protect our rivers from combined sewer overflows continues throughout the community. It is necessary to lower the river to the non-recreational winter-time level beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
The lowering will allow for installing the Third Street consolidation sewer pipe under the river that will connect to the deep rock tunnel drop shaft. In a typical year, more than 270 million gallons of combined sewage overflows into the river.
This project is one of several from the Federal mandate to significantly reduce combined sewer overflows. The lowering will also aid in the construction of drop shafts near East Central Park, Guldlin Park, Thieme Drive, and Camp Allen Drive. The lower level should remain through next spring.
How low do you expect the St. Marys to get to in the Poe area?
