
On August 28, 2020, at 1746 hours, the Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1629 Beach Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Under Control: 1816 hours
On arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames visible from one of the doors of the three unit storage complex. The additional two storage units had significant smoke issuing from their doors. Fire crews made an offensive fire attack on the units. Three metal overhead garage doors had to be cut to make entry into the building. The fire was under control in 26 minutes.
The fire was caused by overheated lithium ion batteries that were stored on top of each other. The batteries ignited causing significant damage to the building.
